LARA BOHINC

Lara Bohinc studied industrial design in her hometown of Ljubljana, Slovenia, before pursuing an MA in metalwork at The Royal College of Art in London, where she still works and lives today.

After a decade-long stint in luxury design industry, exploring the intersection of jewellery, sculpture, and craftsmanship, Lara Bohinc embarked on creating functional pieces for living and in 2016 founded her studio to dedicate her practice to object and furniture design.

Bohinc’s design palette varies in scale from small to very large, and she produces unique pieces, limited editions, private and public commissions. In 2023, she won the Miami Design District Commission with a body of work entitled Utopia, which was presented at Art Basel Miami—her largest public commission to date.

Bohinc’s obsession with material and research has taken her around the globe, including a residency with Urushi craftsmen in Wajima, Japan, in 2017. In 2018, she also did a residency in Venice, working with a community of Murano glassmakers. In 2024, she participated in the International Glass Symposium in Bohemia, Czechia.

Renowned for her refined aesthetic and sculptural approach, Bohinc has collaborated with various brands across textiles, lighting, and furniture.

MAO Ljubljana, Slovenia (Museum for Architecture & Design) presented a retrospective solo exhibition of Bohinc’s work in 2018, and she has exhibited various works at international shows including PAD, Nomad, Salon Art & Design, Design Miami, and Eye of the Collector.

Lara Bohinc received an MBE in 2012.
